I am not able to get this to work. I am able to drag the swatch onto the workspace. I select all the swatch (it is a pattern of paths) with the direct selection tool. The color panel shows there is no fill. In fact, when the pattern is overlaid onto the object of interest it is transparent, except for the line work (strokes). (It's only when I proceed to create the compound/extraction function that it's treated as a filled object.) So with the "no fill" showing in color panel, I then Option Drag (mac) the swatch back to the swatch panel. The little green plus signs pops up but it won't let me drag it in. I then tried a different route. I thought I simply change the color of the line work to white (not my preferred solution but second best) but I continued to have the problem of dragging the new swatch back into the swatch panel. Then I used the Object>Pattern>New function. But that made everything in my workspace disappear, even the object of interest, which was not selected.
