I too am getting frustrated with this problem. Hope someone finds a fix soon.
Running 2011 IMac, Maverick and Firestorm viewer.
Like you, older version runs good but updates only allow me audio on the SL TV.
Is it the same reason why Apple stopped using Flash on IOS ?
They want "The world" to change to their own system
