adding a symbol to a text path

I am creating a coaster for a client, they have type on a circular path all the way around the coaster, my problem is that they want to a add little icons (their logo) between some of the text and I cant work out how to do it. Any help would be appreciated. I have tried creating symbol and pattern but this doesn't seem to work.
