What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
What is the project preset and what are the properties of the source media that you are taking to the Timeline?
One way to get at the source media properties is by knowing the brand/model/settings for the camera that recorded the file.
Please confirm what you mean by
When I preview the clip the audio is present and working.However, when I drag the clip to the timeline the audio has disappeared.
Where are you previewing the clip?
a. in a computer player before import into Premiere Elements
b. double clicking the file's thumbnail in Premiere Elements project media to bring up the Preview Window where you play back the file
c. other
What do you mean the audio has disappeared?
a. your drag the file to the TImeline and you see a file in the audio track but you get no sound from it at playback in the
Edit area monitor
b. you drag the file from project assets to the Timeline and there is no file to be seen in the audio track
c. other
Please run your problem file through the free GSpot utility and let us know what is says for Audio Codec, Name, and Status
as well as Video Codec, Name, and Status
