First, check the size of your image and make sure you didn't accidentally create something huge.
Try disabling any third party plugins you are running (including font managers).
On MacOS 10.9, you also want to make sure that Adobe Drive is not running (it's a separate install, used in some enterprise environments).
MacOS 10.9 broke some APIs used by Drive, and last I heard they're still trying to work out a solution with Apple.
